Focusing on our impact

Children playing with bubbles in a garden, surrounded by green foliage.

We are trying to tread as lightly as possible on the land around us. We are members of the local environmental group and are embracing all the possibilities for reducing our consumption of anything that can’t be reused.

How we approach it

Our Sustainable Tourism Solutions

Outdoor HVAC unit against a stone wall with nearby pink rose bush.

Air Source Heat Recovery

Our house and the cottages all have their own air source heat pumps drawing heat from the air for hot water and underfloor heating. We use no oil or gas for heating at all.

Scenic view of lake with mountainous backdrop and grassy foreground.

Fresh Spring Water

We have our own Cornish water from a borehole treated by a state of the art UV filter, so there are no nasty chemicals at all. We ask that our guests avoid buying plastic bottles of water and we provide them with a reusable steel water bottle in their welcome hamper.

Wall-mounted electric vehicle charging station with a power cable wrapped around it, attached to a wooden post.

Electric Car Charging

In 2021 we had a 22V EV charger installed in the car park. All guests can have unlimited use of this during their stay for a fixed charge paid on booking.

Historic train station platform with old-fashioned building, red trim, and overhead canopy, featuring benches and signs, alongside railway tracks.

Public Transport

Although public transport in Cornwall is not really a viable holiday option yet, we would encourage guests to reduce their carbon footprint and consider travelling by train to our local station where they could then hire a car for their stay. We provide whatever we can to help you travel light and you can hire paddle boards, body boards, bikes and surf boards very easily.

100% Recycled Waste

ll waste from the cottages is collected by a local company that has specialised in the holiday waste sector for 20 years. They have their very own recycling facility and track their waste from ‘cradle to grave’. Any waste that cannot be recycled is used to create green energy. Read more about them here

Sourcing Locally

We are lucky to be surrounded by so many farms that our food miles (and those of our guests) can often be measured in metres rather than miles! There are several fabulous farm shops locally, many of which will deliver to our door. And of course there are our own efforts with vegetable growing and eggs from the chickens - we could always do better but are trying very hard!

Tree Planting

In our first five years here we have planted over 1000 trees, and plan to add even more. All couples who marry here are gifted a named tree to plant, and all other guests are welcome to plant one too!

Charity Partner

We are very proud to work with the local charity Kehalland Trust to support their amazing community and educational horticultural growing programmes. They press the apples from our orchard to make our very own apple juice and their learners help to plant trees here on the farm.
